Today’s
cosmetic dentistry is truly based on “cosmetics” (via media
advertising, air brushed or photo shopped images) rather than
aesthetics. The color scale has gone from B1 being chicklet
white to
pushing colors such as OM1 or 2 in just a few short years. Principles
such as smile design and golden proportions for teeth and gingiva
have become gospel. The result is we as dentists along with
other
health care professionals such as dermatologists and plastic
surgeons
create a population that all look the same.
Dr
. Michael Apa will discuss how to create a beautiful
smile to stand
the test of time and show you how to use the landmarks given
to you
from within the patients own face, that is natural and is specific
to
your patient not to universal guidelines. Through clinical cases
learn
how to chose color based upon the patient’s features and how
to
translate this into the best shade for of your final restorations.
The techniques outlined
in this discussion will show you to systematically look
at the patient as a whole before ever looking at their teeth
in order to create a truly aesthetic smile!
Dr.
Michael Apa practices restorative and aesthetic dentistry with
Dr. Larry Rosenthal at the Rosenthal Apa Group in New York City.
Dr. Apa has written for the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and
has lectured at the AACD and Aesthetic Advantage.
